Honors Courses
MGLVA recognizes that some students would like to take part in a more rigorous curriculum for some or all of their core academic classes.
Honors courses are available to students in grades 9-12 who display a strong academic work ethic and meet the following criteria:
Honors classes are available for the following subject areas:
English
English 9
English 10
American Literature
British Literature
Math
Algebra I
Geometry
Algebra II
Science
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Social Studies
World History
US History
Things to know before enrolling:
If a student is interested in an honors class, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page and email the completed form to your counselor.

Honors courses are available to students in grades 9-12 who display a strong academic work ethic and meet the following criteria:
- Have been with MGLVA for at least one semester
- Be able to meet deadlines
- Students need to apply to become part of honors classes. No extensions are given for turning in their application.
- Have the approval of the most recent content teacher
- Ex: if a student wants to take Honors World History, they need their last Social Studies teacher to approve their enrollment in the class.

Things to know before enrolling:
- Once a student enrolls in an honors course they must complete the work and stay in the honors class for the semester. A student is not allowed to drop an honors class part way through the semester.
- If a student does not receive at least a 60% on their report card, the student will be withdrawn from the honors class for semester 2.
- A student who receives at least a 60% in an honors class can request to not take the honors class for semester 2 if they find the work too rigorous.
- If a teacher recommends that a student be taken out of the honors class, the counselor will be in contact with the student and the student will be withdrawn from the honors course.
- Students who successfully complete their honors class with a 60% or above will receive additional GPA points on their transcript.
