National Honor Society
The MGLVA Chapter of NHS began in December of 2017. As a member of NHS, students work in leadership roles within their communities and our school. They are required to perform at least 20 hours of community service and participate in a group project each year, as well as attend meetings regularly and be an active participant within the chapter, and represent National Honor Society standards both inside and outside of school. We follow national guidelines called by-laws, in our chapter as well.
Students who qualify must have at least a 3.0 GPA, have teacher recommendations, have been with MGLVA for at least 1 full semester, and have had some experience in volunteering their time or taking a leadership role within their communities in the past.
Group Project: Home for the Holidays: Students select an organization that will send cards and letters of encouragement to groups such as veterans, elderly, and hospitalized children.
Individual service projects: Based on the students strengths, they will contribute to the betterment of their community by volunteering their time over the course of the year for at least 20 hours.
Membership Drive: Each school year, we begin a membership drive where we invite students at MGLVA who have an eligible GPA and will be in 10th, 11th or 12th grades in the fall. We start this after testing, towards the end of April. Students are invited to respond to a survey and request an application once invited to apply.
Acceptance and Induction to National Honor Society MGLVA Chapter: Based on information provided by students, our faculty council will determine eligible students for membership after the application process has been completed. Invitations to join will be emailed to accepted students in June. Our inductions ceremony for those students who have accepted, will be held the following Fall.
