Matthew Gives Back to Local Facilities to Spread Compassion and Kindness
Matthew created cards of appreciation for several police stations around his area. The cards were a tribute to his father (Colby Butts), who worked as a corrections officer at the Lenawee County Jail.
Matthew also made origami boxes, filled them with candy, and delivered them to the staff at Morgan Valley Farms, as well as made a chocolate snowman craft and a new pair of gloves to distribute to all of the staff members at the Hospice Center of Lenawee County.
Matthew is giving back and spreading compassion and kindness! He continues to inspire all who meet him!
Haley and Jaelyn Show Thanks to MGLVA Staff: Domino's in Norton Shores, Michigan
Muskegon Beacon Buddies, Haley and Jaelyn, helped to organize a get-together for teachers and administration in the Muskegon area. The pizza party was held at a local Domino's, and several MGLVA staff members attended. It was also Haley's 16th birthday, and she wanted to spend it showing the teachers how much they mean to our students. A lot of food, fun, and laughter was had by all who attended!
Here is what Haley had to say about the event:
We students held this event to give thanks to our hardworking teachers, who put us before them. So, in return, we put them before us, the students. We may have not had them as teachers, but that doesn't mean we can't give thanks. Whether they are our teachers or not, they are a part of the MGLVA family and do not deserve to be left out.

Phyllis Visits the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan
Phyllis visited with veterans during the holiday season, giving them handmade cards, homemade cookies, and heartfelt conversations. Below are some photos of our MGLVA student and her wondeful service!
Here is what Phyllis had to say about her visit:
My visit to the [John D. Dingell] Veterans Hospital was a different kind of experience. I made a bunch of different Christmas cards and posters and baked a lot of cookies so each veteran would enjoy them. I went to the hospital and visited each room, and in each room, there was very thankful and nice vets. I enjoyed making the people that protect our country happy. They had smiles you wouldn’t believe! It really made my day; not only did I make them happy, but a few of the vets also returned the favor and gave me presents to enjoy and watch me open. It was very nice of them. I read aloud all the cards to each vet and took a few pics to remember my wonderful day at the vets hospital. I hope I can visit again soon.
