Teacher Happenings
Teachers spread their knowledge outside the classroom every day by attending Professional Development Seminars, taking classes at colleges or universities, and going to special Conferences for their field of study. On this page, we celebrate those teachers who continue to grow and learn for the benefit of all.
Start of School Professional Development (August 21-22, 2018)
The entire MGLVA staff (K-12 and administration) attended a two-day retreat at the Kettunen Center in Tustin to kick off the new school year! They learned a lot about how to make class times fun and informative, and they worked together to brainstorm the School Improvement Plan. Both days were dedicated to the best ways to help students and families in the upcoming year, and everyone walked away with some new information. They are eager to share it all with their classes!
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (March 5-6, 2018)
Several K-12 teachers from our school attended a two-day intensive training workshop on non-violent crisis intervention at the Kettunen Center in Tustin. While there, they learned some great skills to keep our students safe during state testing in April and May, as well as some techniques to take back to the classroom! They also had fun during Art Night, where teachers created a zentangle lighthouse using various patterns.
Michigan World Language Association 52nd Annual Conference (Nov 10-11, 2016)
Ms. Melissa Kenney, MGLVA Spanish Teacher, attended this year's MIWLA Conference in Lansing. She presented on how to use games in the World Language classroom, and she learned some great practices to help students in the classroom.

Ms. Kenney also attended the Share Fair Nation Event at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI. The event was free to participants, and it allowed teachers from all fields of study to learn from each other. Seminars such as STEAM Punk Science, Technology for Today and Tomorrow's Learners, and Social Emotional Learning were presented at the event.
